Annie McClanahan is a Professor of English at University of California, Irvine. She writes about U.S. popular culture, political economy, and contemporary capitalism. She is the author of Beneath the Wage: Tips, Tasks, and Gigs in the Age of Service Work (Zone Books, 2026) and Dead Pledges: Debt, Crisis and 21st Century Culture (Stanford, 2016).
